How to Install a Water Softener

how to install a water softener

Plumbing DIY is not designed for everyone, but with the right tools and information, you can easily hack it. Some of the projects involved in plumbing are not as difficult as people think. When you are installing a water softener, you need proper tools and patience to ensure that the device you’ve invested money in works perfectly.

Installation Guide

Usually this device comes with installation manual which you must read carefully before you begin the process. Different water softener brands and models have their own specifics in terms of installation procedures although most have a standard procedure. Consider the location where you wish to install the softener. You can choose to keep the tank inside the house but ensure the place is dry with normal temperatures.

If you are installing two tanks close together, make the brine tank to be more accessible as it’s the one you have to refill often. If you install the tank outside the house place it away from direct sunlight. Alternatively, buy a protective cover unit to protect the tank against harsh weather and sun. Additionally, the power outlet should be below fifty feet from the water unit.

Likewise you need a drain in the area which must be at least one and a half inches. Use a tubing to extend a drain which can be put a few meters from the tank. You can opt for a more rigid PVC tube or flexible tubing either of which should extend to the drain to direct the backwash to the drain. You may wish to install the media if it did not come already fixed. This depends on your tank size and if it has a tabulator. Generally, large tanks require gravel under bed.

Place the gravel in place and follow the directions for installing media in the tank as well as the bypass valve. The inlet outlet water connections should be placed depending on installation instructions. At this point, take the brine tubing then connect the softener control valve to the brine tank. You can now connect the brine tank overflow once the tubing is in place. Simply do this by attaching the tubing from the brine into the drain.

Remember to program the control valve that is meant to soften the water. Additionally, run the back wash cycle and spot any leaks and fix them by tightening the fittings. Observe the tank as it runs as it runs just to be sure everything is working correctly. Once there is a steady flow of water from the drain, you should open the water supply valve completely. The idea is to follow the instruction manual to the latter and soon you will have a well functional unit.

What You Need For the Installation

To make this process complete there are a number of tools and equipment you require namely:

  1. Water softener,
  2. Drain,
  3. Funnel,
  4. Flexible tubing,
  5. Masking tape,
  6. Extension cord,
  7. Service manual,
  8. Lubricant,
  9. Sand paper.

If you feel there is a problem you can call your plumber to have a look or go through the manual to see whether you have missed any step.

how to install the perfect home audio system

Technological advancement has made it easier than ever to install your perfect home audio system. Today, bringing music into every room is not as complex, a high-cost task as it was some years ago. Now, thanks to hi-tech and simplified systems, you can easily install an audio system with DJ speakers and remote control access throughout your home for a reticent cost.

1. Decide where to mount the components

Keypads are convenient if they are mounted next to a light switch at the entrance to the room where you are going to install the speakers. But it is also advisable to place the audio system controller at a location in your home that allows wires to be fished quickly to the speakers from the panel distribution unit. Make sure the sound system is in the line of sight from where you want to use the remote controller.

You can attach the speakers to the walls or the ceiling. For the best surround sound, place the wall speakers centered from your listening position and apropos foot from the ceiling. Place the speakers to the ceiling side and above of your preferred listening position and spin it to make sure there is nothing on the way.

2. Fish Cat-5e to the keypads and speaker wires

Push a wire through the ceiling, then in the center, find the wire and measure its length adjacent to the wall. Drill a hole through the plate. Drop a heavy weight wire through the hole you have drilled. Then, attach the cables and pull them up the center attic.

For this kind of system, you will be required to run a Cat-5e cable wire from the chief distribution modular to a Cat -5e jack port modular. Lastly, you will run the speaker wires from the keypad to the speakers located in the same room.

To maximize the effectiveness of the Cat -5e wire, it is vital to take precaution when you are installing the cable to the speaker. For better performance, follow these steps:

  • With no less than twelve inches radius, make bends gradual
  • Don’t tug the cable when pulling gently
  • Support it with cables at the correct angle

3. Connect the wires

Connecting Cat -5e cables is easy. You just uncover the plastic sheathing, undo the pair of cables, and use a punch down tool to pull them onto special blocks. You have to be careful not to disconnect the tiny wires when you are uncovering the sheath, though, that is the main reason we recommend the unzipping method.

Strip the sheathing from the speakers using the tactic mentioned above, and then connect the wires and strips. Ensure the stripped section fits properly into the drilled holes with and no bare wire showing. Connection methods may vary from one brand manufacturer to the next. As it will help prevent heat loss, make a sealed enclosure from the drywall over the speakers. Then cover it with insulation.

4. Connect the equipment with standard cables

Connect the distribution source hub to the jack; you will need to use a Cat- 5e a patch cord. Connect the cables to the RCA cables with the audio source.

You can connect any audio source to the hub. If you are connecting the receiver to the speaker, cap the RCA cable into the outputs on the back of the audio system. With this setup, you will be able to listen to any module (radio, turntable, CD player, for example) that is plugged into the audio receiver hub.

If a component has remote control ability, you can optimize it from the keypads. First, you have to stick an infrared receiver in front of the components. This is not as hard as it sounds. It is a bit strenuous to place the flasher since it is not always easy to locate the exact location of the infrared receiver on the component.

The CV, channel vision, the controller is programmed to work the keypads, but you have to optimize it to send signals to the other audio system component. You can also use your program or learn remote, but you have to use the Channel Vision remote to optimize it to use the keypads.

If you are lucky, you will turn on the music and everything might work perfectly. If it does not, you are likely to have a loose connection or have mixed up wires. Recheck all your connections. Be sure the cables are punched down entirely and connected in the correct order. If you are still experiencing trouble with links, contact your sale distributor for aid.

Life has become very demanding, and because it is so, it is very hard to try and make time for some of the important things in life such as exercise. Your body needs to be in the best shape for you to be a productive person. Gym memberships are also becoming an expensive affair so why not opt to have your gym at home?

Factors to Consider

There are certain factors that you have to weigh to be confident that you are making the right choice for you and your family when you build a gym in the house. There is no use of getting excited about something, buying the equipment and then three months down the line; nobody is using it.

  • You need to ask yourself, what you stand to gain by building the gym. Is it the onetime fee of construction instead of paying every month at the commercial gym? Is it because a gym at home is more convenient and motivating?
  • How far are you willing to go when it comes to spending on the gym design and equipment?
  • How committed are you to a life of fitness?
  • How many members of your family will be using the gym too?

Choosing the Room

A home gym is a social place where family and friends can have a good time getting fit. This means that you should choose a room that will allow that to happen. Most people opt for the basement but just in case you want to have more options; you can make a choice considering the following;

  1. A room where you like spending most of your time in
  2. One with a window and lots of natural light
  3. It should be spacious. You can add a hangout space where after an intense workout you can have some juice or water

Working out is work. You need to be inspired to do so. Therefore, you should ensure that the room you choose gives an ambience that gets you inspired to workout. When it comes to setting up your gym at home, mirrors are highly recommended. This is because mirrors make the room look large, reflect light and help you monitor your moves hence preventing injuries. As you monitor yourself on the mirror, you will be able to make the necessary adjustments.

Choosing the Equipment

One of the factors to consider when selecting home gym equipment is your personal fitness goals. The three most important areas that these equipment caters for are cardio training, flexibility, and strength training or muscles. If you want to shed a few kilos or just get in shape, get equipment that is meant for absolutely that. Stationary bikes and treadmills are good for cardio.

How much you are willing to spend is also another thing. If your budget is limited, buy equipment in phases until you finally have a fully equipped gym. You can also buy used equipment, but you should also check on the quality if you do so.

Training Space

You should also consider the floor area before buying your home gym equipment. The room should be well ventilated of course but if it is not big enough simply get what is necessary and fits.

Getting the Flooring for Your Gym

Carpet tiles

Carpet tiles are quite popular in the United States. They are comfortable and easy to clean plus quite durable. You can easily install them since they are tiles that interlock.

Rubber flooring is the number one choice of flooring for many gym owners. This is due to their extreme durability.

They do not need replacing even after ten years. Rubber flooring is great whereby there is heavy lifting equipment. This is to ensure the floor is not destroyed. It is also easy to clear. It does not harbour mould, dust or any germ growth.

Buying Essential Equipment

1. Olympic plates

When it comes to budget plates, you have two options; basic bumper plates or you can go for standard steel plates. It all depends on what you can afford. Steel plates usually are sold per kilo so the more you buy, the more you pay. Remember you can upgrade your gym gradually. Rome was not built in a day.

2. Utility bench

The next thing on your list should be the utility bench. Get something that has thick pads, is wide and long enough.

3. Dumbbells

You need these to work out your muscles plus they are quite versatile as you can do a number of exercises while lifting them. They come in different weights, therefore, buy what you can afford.

4. Pull up bar

This one can easily be installed in your gym. It is great for core workouts. It also gives you great stability and you can do lots of gymnastic moves on it if you are up to it.

5. Skipping rope

This sounds silly, but a skipping rope is one of the things that should never miss in a gym. It is great for warm ups and cardio.

As time goes by you can upgrade and buy more equipment. Everyone starts at a certain point. All you need to do is start.
